Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What does ISD do?
The Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) is dedicated to promoting inclusive and sustainable development through research, project implementation, community engagement, and capacity building. We focus on rural development, environmental protection, sustainable mobility, education, and social inclusion.
Where are you based and where do you operate?
We are based in Tetovo, North Macedonia, and our work primarily focuses on the Western Balkans region, especially rural and underdeveloped areas. However, we are open to partnerships and collaborations across Europe and beyond.
What kind of projects do you work on?
We design and implement projects focused on youth empowerment, diverse educational and exchange programs, urban and rural development, environmental education, green entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. Additionally, we conduct policy research, develop strategic plans, and advocate for improved rural and environmental policies.
Do you collaborate with other organizations, governments, or institutions?
Yes, we actively collaborate with local municipalities, universities, civil society networks, international donors, and EU-funded programs. Partnerships are essential to achieving sustainable results.
How is ISD funded?
ISD is funded through project grants from international donors, European Union programs, local government support, private sponsorships, and community contributions. We remain deeply grateful to all those who supported us in the early days of our establishment, whose help laid the foundation for our work today.
Can I volunteer at ISD and what are the requirements?
Yes, we are always open to volunteers who share our values and mission. We offer both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities depending on our ongoing projects.
Volunteers should be motivated, responsible, and interested in sustainable development. Specific skills are a plus, but not a requirement.
What makes ISD different from others?
Our strength lies in our local roots, data-driven approach, and commitment to long-term sustainability. We don’t just implement projects—we empower communities, foster partnerships, and advocate for systemic change.
